Bridges

With the reservation's 5 miles of waterways, a collection of bridges was needed to access various parts of the property. While much of the water was just streams or areas too shallow to navigate, the bridges played an important part of camp life. Over the years, bridges were built, then removed or replaced, depending on the area of the reservation and the era. Some of the removed bridges were replaced with dame or culverts, while others were left out completely.

A host of bridges were cherished as they remained throughout the history of the reservation. Most of them were in the Camp Lenape part of the property. Naturally, the most used and most popular was the Main Bridge. Over it's lifetime, beside being a regular year round maintenance item, it was rebuilt a couple times as it set on it's eight inch metal pilings. The Main Bridge was the link between the Main Area and all campsites except Walnut. It also provided a path to the Waterfront, Nature Island, Amphitheater, Rifle and Archery Ranges, and acres and acres of beautiful pine and oak forest.
